How to Calm Down and Stay Calm
We feel a number of major emotions almost everyday. One minute we are happy and the other minute we may be extremely stressed, anxious about something, or angry because someone just did the exact opposite of what you asked them to. This is pretty much a normal day for us but are we able to manage this shift of emotions efficiently?
While one may consider it extremely important to calm oneself down so that they react appropriately, it is equally, if not more, important to let the feelings out so that one doesn’t get affected mentally by the incident or their own thoughts. In either case, it is important to calm down and acknowledge the rush of emotions they must be having. But is it easy to achieve? We all have been in situations where we have reacted in a certain way that we either regretted or had to face repercussions. So, I guess, almost each one of us knows that it is not that easy. But well, we all have to.
Whenever you feel a sudden rush of emotions or feel overwhelmed, it is highly recommended that you start deep breathing. Deep breathing calms the person down and normalizes the rate at which the heart starts beating when the individual gets anxious. There are various breathing techniques that are believed to be beneficial in calming an individual down.
Acknowledge Your Emotions
Once you have calmed down a little by breathing deeply, remove yourself from the scenario and take some time alone to acknowledge your emotions. Don’t panic or overthink, just spend some time with yourself and accept what you are feeling and the reason behind it. Then understand what led to the situation and if you could have done something to avoid it. Now think if there’s something that could be done to reverse the scenario or the mess that has been created. If yes, focus on finding the solution but if there is nothing that could be done, there is no point stressing so let it go and try to find an alternative.
Whenever there is tension, it is always a great idea to go out and spend some time in nature. Just leave everything, stop stressing and walk. Let the beauty of nature take over your thoughts and focus on every little thing that gives you positive vibes. Let Them Know Your Feelings
Once you are in your senses and not influenced by your emotions, consider talking to the people who affected you and let them know why you felt what you felt. Talk to them and ask them to understand the situation and you. But still don’t expect anything in return. Not everyone is bound to respect your feelings but you accepting and acknowledging your feelings, and choosing to let people know about this little part that you held close to yourself should be your main focus. Be proud of how you stayed calm and chose to keep the situation under control. It’s on others if they choose to respect that or not.
